How to lower League of Legends ping
Short answer
In League of Legends, ping is largely set by distance to the region your account sits in. Turn on the in-game network readout, run a short Ethernet test, stop background downloads and decide whether you have steady high ping or sudden spikes.
League of Legends may feel different from aim-driven shooters, but it is still latency-sensitive around ability casts and last-hit timing. Watching ping and frame rate together in the in-game readout is the fastest way to separate a network problem from a PC performance one.
For players in Turkey, most of the total delay comes from physical distance to the region tied to the account. Free steps will not change that floor, but they can clear away most of the spikes sitting on top of it.
1. Turn on the in-game ping and FPS readout
Make the network readout visible during matches and note the normal ping range across several games. Steady high ping points to distance and route; sudden spikes point to your home network, background traffic or congestion along the path.
If frame rate drops while ping stays normal, the problem is not your connection. Check graphics settings, drivers and background process load instead.
2. Rule out Wi-Fi and background traffic
A short Ethernet test is the quickest way to eliminate Wi-Fi-induced fluctuation. If the spikes vanish on a wired link, start with router placement and in-home coverage.
Game updates, cloud backups and streaming software can queue your connection. Stopping them before a match can make a noticeable difference, especially in the evening.
- Run a short Ethernet comparison.
- Pause client and other game updates.
- Turn off cloud backup and streaming.
- Check the load from other devices at home.
3. Region distance sets the ping floor
The region tied to your account determines where the servers you connect to sit. A packet travelling from Turkey to European regions covers more ground than one going somewhere closer, and no software removes that baseline.
The realistic goal is therefore not to reset the floor but to reduce the unnecessary delay and fluctuation stacked on top of it.
4. The client and Windows side
Keep your network adapter driver current and close unnecessary processes using the network. If the connection drops frequently, start with Windows' built-in network troubleshooter.
Stay away from 'ping reducer' registry bundles that do not say what they change. A setting you cannot measure cannot be safely reverted.
A quick League of Legends check
- Turn on the in-game ping and FPS readout.
- Note the normal range across several matches.
- Pause downloads, backups and streams.
- Run a short Ethernet comparison.
- Record which hours the spikes cluster in.
Common questions about League of Legends ping
- What is a good ping in League of Legends?
- On nearby European regions most players consider 30-70 ms normal from Turkey. Stability matters at least as much as the number; a constantly spiking ping feels worse than a slightly higher but orderly one.
- My ping only rises in the evening — what should I do?
- That usually points to household usage or congestion on the provider side. Repeat the same test during a quieter hour; if the gap is clear, it is worth contacting your ISP with dates, times and measurements.
- Does ZeroLag support League of Legends?
- Not yet. The current scope is Windows, Counter-Strike 2 and the Istanbul exit. League of Legends is among the planned titles in the catalog.
